Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 September 2026
This policy explains what information Jib (“we”, “us”) collects through the Jib website (jibapp.com.au) and the Jib mobile app (com.jibjobs.app), how it’s used, and the choices you have.
The website
Reading guides and using the free tools on this website doesn’t require an account. The website doesn’t show advertising. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (for example which pages and tools are popular, and how many people click through to the app). It records pages viewed, approximate location (city level), device and browser type, how you arrived, and actions such as clicking a download button or using a calculator; IP addresses are anonymised. For visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies are off by default and only anonymous, cookieless measurements are sent. You can opt out everywhere with Google’s Analytics opt-out add-on. Our hosting provider (GitHub Pages) keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, for security and operating the service. The calculators and DIY legality checker run entirely in your browser; the numbers and answers you enter aren’t sent to us.
1. Who we are
Jib is developed by Thomas Horsey (ABN 32 407 565 881), Queensland, Australia. For any privacy questions or requests, contact hello@jibapp.xyz.
2. Information we collect in the app
2.1 Account information
Jib offers three ways to sign in: Google, Apple, and email/password.
- Google or Apple Sign-In: we receive your name and email address from Google or Apple (and a profile photo, for Google), and a unique account identifier (via Firebase Authentication).
- Email/password: we receive the email address and password you provide; the password is stored and verified by Firebase Authentication, not by us directly, and we never see it in plain text.
You can also use the app without signing in; in that case your data stays only on your device and is not backed up to the cloud.
2.2 Content you create
- House, space and job details you enter (names, descriptions, notes, recurrence schedules)
- Photos you take or upload of your house, spaces and jobs, including before-and-after photo pairs
- Shopping list items, including any retailer names or links you enter
- Your inventory: the tools and materials you list, or that the AI lists from a photo of your garage, shed or a receipt
- Your suburb/location, entered manually or resolved from your device’s location (used for location-aware advice, see section 4)
- Questions and messages you send to the AI planning feature, and the AI’s responses
- Jobs you add by voice: your phone’s own speech recognition (Apple’s on iPhone, Google’s on Android) turns what you say into text. Jib receives only that text, never a recording
- Tradie briefs the AI writes for you to send when asking for quotes. A brief only goes to anyone when you choose to share or copy it
2.3 Automatically collected information
- Basic device and app information, crash reports and app usage events (for example which features are used, and when a job is created or completed), collected with Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. These are linked to a random account identifier, not your name or email, and help us fix bugs and improve Jib.
- Location data, only if you grant location permission, and only to resolve your suburb, we don’t track or store precise ongoing location
2.4 Purchases and subscriptions
If you buy a subscription or AI credit top-up, the purchase is handled entirely by Google Play or the Apple App Store, we never see or store your payment card details. To manage what you’ve bought, we use RevenueCat, which receives your purchase status and a device identifier from the store, not your card details. See RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.
3. How we use your information
- To provide the app, storing your houses, spaces, jobs, photos and shopping lists, and syncing them across your devices when you’re signed in
- To generate AI job plans, steps, shopping suggestions and safety warnings (see section 4)
- To generate a general climate and building-context summary for your suburb
- To maintain and improve the app, including diagnosing bugs
- To reply to you if you contact us
We don’t sell your personal information and don’t use it for advertising. Jib doesn’t show ads.
4. AI features and third-party processing
Jib uses Anthropic’s Claude API to power job planning, steps, shopping suggestions, follow-up questions, reading photos of your tools, writing tradie briefs and turning jobs you add by voice into job entries. When you use these features, the relevant details (such as a job’s title, description, room and house details, the text of what you said and, where relevant, a photo you’ve attached) are sent to Anthropic to generate a response. See Anthropic’s Privacy Policy.
AI-generated content is not professional advice. Steps, material suggestions, cost estimates and safety warnings are generated automatically and may be incomplete or inaccurate, or miss risks specific to your property.
5. Where your information is stored
- On your device: house, space, job and shopping data, and photos, are stored locally.
- In the cloud (only if signed in): the same data is synced to Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage) so it’s available across your devices. It’s tied to your account and not visible to other users, except people you choose to share a house with (see section 6.1).
- Location lookups: resolving a suburb uses Google’s geocoding and Places services and, for AI-assisted matching, Anthropic’s API. Neither keeps this beyond what’s needed to return a result.
5.1 Storage outside Australia
The services we use to run Jib (Google Firebase and Google Analytics, Anthropic, RevenueCat and GitHub) are based overseas, so your information may be stored and processed outside Australia, mainly in the United States. We only use providers that protect data with industry-standard security, and we share only what each one needs to do its job.
6. Sharing your information
We don’t sell or rent your information. We share it only with the service providers needed to run Jib: Google Firebase (sign-in, sync, Google Analytics and Crashlytics), Apple (Sign in with Apple, if you use it), Anthropic (AI features), Google Places/geocoding (location) and RevenueCat (purchases). We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Jib, our users or others.
6.1 Shared houses
You can share a house with people you choose, such as a partner or housemate, by sending them an invite code. Codes expire after 7 days.
- What they see: everyone in a shared house can see and edit everything in that house: its details, spaces, jobs, photos, shopping list and inventory, plus the first name on each member’s account. Nothing from your other houses is shared.
- Where it’s kept: in Google Firebase (Firestore and Storage) so every member can reach it, with a copy on each member’s phone.
- Leaving and removing: any member can leave, and the person who shared the house can remove members or stop sharing at any time. Whoever leaves or is removed loses access straight away; jobs and photos they added stay in the house. If the person who shared it stops sharing, they keep the house and everyone else loses it.
- Deleting your account takes you out of every shared house and ends sharing for any house you shared.
7. Your choices and rights
- Access and correction: you can view and edit almost all your data in the app at any time.
- Deletion: you can delete individual jobs, photos, spaces or houses, or delete your entire account (which permanently removes your cloud-synced data) from Settings.
- Local-only use: you can use the app without signing in, in which case no data leaves your device.
- Location: you can decline or revoke location permission at any time; the app falls back to manual suburb search.
- Microphone: only needed to add jobs by voice. You can decline or revoke it at any time; everything else works without it.
- Shared houses: leave a shared house, or stop sharing one, from Settings at any time.
If you’re in the EU or UK, you have rights under the GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, portability and objection), contact us to exercise them. In Australia, we aim to handle your information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
7.1 Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, email hello@jibapp.xyz and we’ll respond within 30 days. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
8. Data retention
We keep your account data while your account is active. If you delete your account, your account and cloud-synced data (houses, jobs, photos, shopping lists and inventory) are permanently removed. Data stored only on your device stays until you delete the app or clear its data.
Anonymous usage and crash data (section 2.3) isn’t linked to your name or email, so it isn’t removed when you delete your account. It’s kept for up to 14 months and then deleted automatically. Purchase records are kept by Apple, Google and RevenueCat as their own policies and the law require. You can also request deletion without the app.
9. Children’s privacy
Jib isn’t directed at children and we don’t knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we’ll remove it.
10. Security
We use industry-standard measures, including Firebase’s built-in security, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be shown by updating the “Last updated” date above and, where the law requires, with additional notice.
